30 Rock (2006–2013)

30 Rock was wonderful in so many ways, including how it introduced new words and phrases (Twofer, Bottoms-Up-Day, jagweed, lizzing, MILF Island).

I  always had to watch NBC’s 30 Rock on a delayed basis on my DVR. I had to do this in order to pause an episode as often as needed in order to look up some pop culture reference, meme, urban slang, or non-sequitur by one of the characters that otherwise would have escaped me. This was especially the case anytime Jane Krakowski’s “Jenna Maroney” character was on-screen (whose persona has been compared to our commander-in-chief).

The writers on 30 Rock must have had a great deal of fun (and be proud of their role) in creating new words and phrases that have entered into the mainstream vocabulary — so many that you can find them in online glossaries.

This clip compiles the 10 quotes on “manipulation” from Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) whose persona has been characterized as a thinly-disguised sendup of Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric (which previously owned NBC).
